Promising innovative technologies and ideas from the customer perspective discovered by Hyundai Motor and Kia in collaboration with global startups have gathered together.

Hyundai Motor and Kia held the “2022 Open Innovation Lounge” at their headquarters in Yangjae-dong from the 7th to the 11th to demonstrate new technologies with promising startups at home and abroad.

The Open Innovation Lounge is an open innovation product development platform launched in 2019 to create a creative and flexible product and new technology development culture, and to quickly apply the technology experience customers want to vehicles through technical cooperation with external startups.

At this year’s event, 13 collaboration results with startups under the slogan “Building Future Together” and 150 future technology scenarios imagined by Hyundai Motor and Kia were exhibited.



For this open innovation lounge, Hyundai Motor and Kia evaluated about 200 global startups based on customer satisfaction, technology feasibility, and innovation, and selected a total of 13 teams, including 2 Korean teams, 7 North American teams, 3 European teams, and 1 Israeli team.

Hyundai Motor and Kia supported costs and vehicles for selected startups to implement their ideas freely, and each startup participated in the event by producing technologies and ideas in actual vehicles or mock-ups there.

The technologies implemented by startups were displayed in three areas: the PoC (Proof of Concept) zone, the Partners zone, and the Advanced Development zone.

In the “PoC Zone,” technology that provides personalized experiences such as an artificial intelligence (AI) system that analyzes users’ expressions or eyes, a sound solution that recognizes drivers’ voices by removing ambient noise, a digital olfactory solution that can analyze various types of smell through biosensors, and a radar sensor that detects passengers’ heart rate and breath.
